Moving
back to Ramblings
If there is one thing life teaches you, it is that you had better be able to embrace change. Our flying daughter, Fifinella, has been dealing with it in spades for the last several months and I think she has handled it admirably.
Her job with an aerobatic team keeps her on the road for weeks at a time during the air show season. Life for her becomes a blur of hotel rooms and airports. One of her favorite parts of the job is ferrying planes from one show to the next. That’s when she gets to see the USA in all of its glory, hopping from one small airport to the next. I follow her progress on her SPOT, a personal GPS that we gave her and ordered her to keep on her body during all flights, preferably connected to her parachute.
Since the end of her marriage, last spring, Fifinella has been semi-homeless. Of course she knows she always has a home with us, but since we live nowhere close to where she needs to be for her work, we aren’t a lot of help. Most of the time she’s been sleeping in a “cubby” in the hangar where the team trains and offers training courses for pilots. The hangar has two cubbies for use by employees. When Fifinella got tired of the hangar, or the guys, or both, she would either make the long drive to our house for a few days, or sneak away to the guest house of a family friend who lives nearby. Clearly she needed a place of her own.
A few weeks ago she rented a little furnished studio apartment attached to a private home. I think she’ll be quite happy there.

Follow the yellow brick (NOT!) path ...

Her sliding glass door opens onto the pool deck. She said the old dog sleeps on the door mat and snores. Makes her feel at home.

no room for her piano, her guitar will have to do

In the far corner you can see the little “kitchen area” where there is a small refrigerator, a hot plate, a microwave oven and a toaster oven.

She says the bed is super comfy.

I finally let her take the giant down pillow I bought in France which she has lusted after for years.
If we ever get any rain in California, she can enjoy a nice cozy fire and a good movie.

books, dvd's, food - what more do you need?

She decided, based on advice from a decorating expert, to use glass jars to store some of her food – cereal, granola, cookies, etc., since she has very limited storage space. It was a good way to put these shelves to good use and make the food “decorative”.
I laughed when I first saw pictures of the bathroom. This is the same color tile we have in her bathroom in our house! Turns out this place was built about the same time we built our house. How bizarre is that?! The only difference between the two bathrooms is that we used grout that matched the tile (I hate cleaning grout).
A very pleasant surprise in the bathroom was the shower – it is also a sauna big enough for about 6 people!

Look, Mom, room for friends!

I guess we know where Fifinella will be seating her extra guests when she has a party! The bench wraps around 2 walls of the shower. Bring your own towel.
